What is a power module?

08 Jan, 2026 11:45am

Basic Concepts of Power Modules

A power module is a device that provides electrical power: A power module is a device or component used to provide power to other electronic devices or systems. It is essentially a power conversion device directly soldered onto a circuit board, primarily functioning to convert alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) to each other. Based on the conversion method, it is generally divided into two modes: AC-DC and DC-DC.

What devices can a power module power? It can power application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), digital signal processors (DSPs), microprocessors, memory, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and other digital or analog loads.

Functions of a Power Module: Power modules typically have functions such as power conversion, voltage regulation, and overcurrent protection to ensure that the output power is stable and reliable within a certain voltage and current range.
