Electric forklift power solution

27 Jan, 2026 10:35am

The electric forklift power converter is one of its core components. It employs DC-DC power conversion technology to efficiently convert the high-voltage DC power (e.g., 48V to 80VDC) from the battery into low-voltage DC power (e.g., 12V or 24V) to power the forklift's lighting, control systems, and instruments. This converter is renowned for its simple circuit design and excellent conversion efficiency.

The electric forklift power converter (often called an electric forklift charger) is a key device used for charging and converting energy from the electric forklift's battery. Its core function is to convert the input AC power into DC power suitable for battery charging, and to achieve a safe and efficient charging process through precise control of output parameters.

The charger mainly consists of a rectifier unit, transformer, filter circuit, control circuit, and protection circuit. Its working principle is briefly described below:

First, the input AC power undergoes voltage transformation through the transformer to meet the voltage requirements of subsequent circuits. The transformer plays a crucial role in voltage regulation, adjusting the output voltage level according to the battery's charging specifications.

Then, the AC power enters the rectifier circuit. A rectifier, typically composed of diodes or silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs), converts alternating current (AC) into pulsating direct current (DC).

Next, this pulsating DC is smoothed by a filter circuit. This filter circuit, generally composed of capacitors and inductors, suppresses high-frequency noise and harmonic interference, resulting in a more stable and smoother output voltage and preventing electrical stress on the battery.

The filtered DC then enters the control circuit. As the intelligent core of the charger, the control circuit monitors battery parameters such as voltage, current, and temperature in real time and dynamically adjusts the output according to preset charging algorithms (e.g., constant current, constant voltage, float charging stages) to optimize charging and extend battery life.

Furthermore, the power converter incorporates multiple protection circuits, including overcurrent protection (OCP), overvoltage protection (OVP), overtemperature protection (OTP), and short-circuit protection, ensuring automatic output cutoff or adjustment in abnormal conditions and guaranteeing the safe operation of the charging equipment and battery.

In summary, electric forklift power converters provide a stable and reliable power supply for electric forklifts through efficient AC-DC conversion, precise power regulation, and comprehensive protection mechanisms. They are an important component for achieving continuous operation and efficient energy utilization of electric vehicles.
